Calcite gem stone
This transparent crystal can be found in a variety of colors including clear, green, pink, orange and blue. It forms within the veins of huge slabs of limestone. Geologists have found evidence of yellow calcite dating back millions of years. When yellow calcite occurs in combination with brown aragonite and other minerals, it is called septarian. Clear (Iceland Spar) variety displays an optical illusion called double refraction - when you look through the crystal, it splits the light rays in two, producing a double image.
