Sodalite Ball

Sodalite is a dark blue stone with white calcite interspersed. It is sometimes confused with lapis lazuli as it also has small specks of pyrite in it. In fact, sodalite together with lazurite is a key component in lapis lazuli.

It was first discovered in Greenland but did not gain any public popularity for another century when it surfaced in Ontario, Canada. This find ultimately became known as the Princess Mine after Princess Margaret, sister of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. Princess Margaret was presented a beautiful blue stone by her husband, which became one of her favorite gems. Sodalite is the national gemstone of Canada.
