Bloodstone (Heliotrope) properties

Bloodstone (also called heliotrope) is a member of the chalcedony family. It is dark green in color with red spotting, which is caused by the presence of iron oxides in the mineral.

India is the primary source of bloodstone, but it also occurs in Brazil, China, Australia, and the US.

Bloodstone meaning in folklore

Ancient Christians believed that the blood of Christ dripped from the cross onto a dark green stone at his feet. This is believed to be the origin of bloodstone. It is an ancient stone, and was valued for its special healing powers in the Middle Ages.

Today it is used as a healing stone and is believed to be a cleanser for the immune system, a protection stone against negativity of all types. It is used to calm and dispel confusion.
